Climate Change Caucus

Overview

The Nova Scotia Climate Change Caucus is a collection of Nova Scotia organizations and individuals working in, or interested in, climate change issues. We work to support the amazing efforts across all environmental groups in Nova Scotia. There are some very knowledgeable and experienced voices in this Province who have answers to many of the mitigation and adaptation questions that exist. These voices need to be amplified and shared.

We work on increasing understanding with anyone who is interested in learning. The thoughts of climate change can seem overwhelming, frightening, or frustrating to many. There still exist many voices that still seek to confuse, misdirect, or blur the conversation for their own benefits. Climate action requires ambitious and creative solutions. This requires investing in our future. This means multi-solving. These outcomes do not happen by accident. They must all be designed for. When we all work from the same knowledge base, we can focus efforts on the actions required. Climate Change isn’t all about risk and cost. On the contrary, it represents some great multi-solving opportunities for investment and progress for Nova Scotia. Every climate action taken, no matter how large or small, has a societal and business disruption opportunity with many benefits. As part of the solutions, we need to address climate impacts, we also believe in:

  1. Etuapmumk (Two-Eyed Seeing) - Using the best of indigenous knowledge combined with the best of western technological knowledge to come up with the best of both.
  2. Inclusion – Everyone has a voice at the table. Reducing the effects of climate change on the most vulnerable, and those who have suffered from historic and systemic exclusion.
  3. Just transition – As we transition to a green and net-zero carbon economy, creating new education and decent work opportunities and leaving no one behind.
  4. Equity – ensuring the benefits and burdens of climate action are equitably distributed. Ensuring a transparent process to empower and uplift all communities.
  5. Sustainable prosperity – where economic benefits, environmental stewardship and social responsibilities are integrated and recognized as being interconnected, where the cost and value of all externalities is accounted for.

Purpose

Our purpose is to increase awareness, education and collaboration across all Nova Scotia stakeholders regarding all climate change issues.
