The following 17 slide decks demonstrate a brief overview of each Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), a short update on global progress towards each goal, and a local overview of progress towards the goals in Nova Scotia.
The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations serve as a blueprint for a better and more sustainable future for all. These goals address global challenges we face, from poverty and inequality to environmental degradation and climate change. Each goal is interconnected, aiming to create a world where everyone can thrive, without leaving anyone behind.
Early efforts advanced the goals; positive change was being made across the globe in the realms of child mortality, extreme poverty, gender equality, electricity access, and unemployment rates (sdgs.un.org). However, following the COVID-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine and various climate-related disasters progress has slowed towards the SDGs. Now, assessments of the 140 targets show that only 12% are on track to be met by 2030.
