By Anna Jessop, NSEN Journalism Volunteer
The Nova Scotia government introduced the new Environmental Goals and Climate Change Reduction Act (Bill 57) on October 27th, 2021. The Act has been hailed as progressive, leading as Canada’s most advanced goal on greenhouse gas emissions reductions for 2030. It is based on the achievement of sustainable prosperity in Nova Scotia and the acknowledgement of climate change as a global emergency. The highlights on the bill include the commitment to reduce emission by 53% by 2030 and achieve net-zero by 2050, have 80% of Nova Scotia energy from renewables, and have 30% of vehicle sales by 2030 to be zero-emission vehicles.
The Nova Scotia Environmental Network has created the following guide for our network to make the targets of the Act easily accessible. We have broken down the goals into twelve action areas for an easy to browse guide.
