Localized climate projections for Nova Scotia with the Climate Services Specialist for the province of Nova Scotia, Alex Cadel

Alex works in a shared role between the Department of Environment & Climate Change and CLIMAtlantic, the new regional climate services hub for Atlantic Canada. His work involves supporting Nova Scotians from all sectors in accessing, understanding, and applying information about climate change to their adaptation decision-making.

Alex holds a BSc in Environmental Science from the University of Guelph and a Master of Climate Change from the University of Waterloo, along with a variety of professional experience that includes downscaling climate projections for municipalities, climate adaptation planning in the forestry sector, and managing climate change projects with the Confederacy of Mainland Mi’kmaq.

CLIMAtlantic facilitates access to regionally relevant climate information and supports its effective use in planning and decision making for New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador. They are user-driven, focusing on the needs of Indigenous communities, academia, provincial governments, municipalities, local service districts, non-profits, industry, and landowners. CLIMAtlantic works with all regional and local groups to ensure there is a strong network of collaboration, and data and tools are easily accessible.
