Unlocking Cape Breton's Geothermal Potential: Opportunities & Challenges

Webinar Recording

Geothermal energy involves harnessing underground heat to help meet our growing energy demands without burning fossil fuels. Join us online as we host Rupinder Kaur and Joe Collier from Net Zero Atlantic to discuss the potential role of geothermal energy in Nova Scotia. The presentation will cover the science and economics of geothermal energy, as well as its various practical applications ranging from commercial and residential heating to agriculture and cooling. We will also discuss the objectives and outcomes of Net Zero Atlantic’s GeoCAT project, which explores Cape Breton’s unique potential for new geothermal energy projects. Attendees can expect to become more informed about geothermal energy technologies and how Nova Scotians can get involved in these projects.

Net Zero Atlantic is a non-profit organization which supports renewable energy-based projects and supports Atlantic Canada to achieve Net Zero by 2050. The team consists of scientists, engineers, and program managers who lead applied research and projects in critical topics including energy system modelling, hydrogen, offshore wind, geothermal energy, and tidal energy. These projects are carried out in collaboration with academia, governments, private sector, Indigenous Peoples, and other NGOs to draw upon collective insight and experience.
